How SecureDrive Rentals Works

Simple rentals for fully insured drivers only.

For your safety and ours, we only rent vehicles to drivers who can provide valid, verifiable insurance that meets our coverage standards. If you cannot show adequate insurance, we will not be able to complete your booking.

Average approval time after documents are received: under 30 minutes during business hours.

Non‑negotiable safety standard

We only rent to drivers with current, verified insurance

To protect you, other drivers, and our vehicles, every SecureDrive rental requires proof of active personal auto insurance that meets or exceeds our minimum liability and collision standards. If you are unable to provide acceptable insurance, we will not proceed with the rental, even if a vehicle is available.

We also reserve the right to decline rentals for drivers whose insurance policies cannot be verified, are suspended, or do not cover the type of vehicle requested. We do not make exceptions to this policy.

Minimum insurance requirements

  • Active personal auto policy in your name
  • Liability coverage meeting local legal minimums or higher
  • Comprehensive and collision coverage on requested vehicle class
  • Policy valid for entire rental period

We typically refuse rentals when

  • You cannot provide proof of insurance
  • Your policy is expired, suspended, or unverifiable
  • Coverage does not extend to rental vehicles
  • Coverage is significantly below our safety thresholds

Step-by-step overview

The SecureDrive rental process

Here is exactly what to expect from your first inquiry to vehicle return. Insurance verification happens before you ever drive away.

Step 1: Choose your dates & vehicle

Submit your preferred dates, pickup time, and vehicle class (compact, SUV, premium, etc.). We confirm availability and send you a preliminary quote—no vehicle is reserved yet.

At this stage we also flag whether your requested vehicle has any additional insurance requirements (for example, for luxury or specialty models).

Step 2: Verify your license & insurance

You upload a clear photo of your driver’s license and insurance card or policy declarations page. Our team verifies:

  • Your identity and license validity
  • Insurance policy status and expiration date
  • Coverage levels vs. our minimum requirements

If we cannot verify acceptable insurance, the process stops here and we will not complete your rental.

Step 3: Confirm, pay, and pick up

Once your insurance and license are approved, we finalize your reservation, take payment, and send your rental agreement with coverage details clearly listed.

On pickup day, you present the same license and insurance documents, complete a quick vehicle inspection with our team, and drive away.

After your trip, you return the vehicle, complete a final inspection, and we close out your agreement.

Who we can and cannot rent to

Rental eligibility & required documents

SecureDrive Rentals is designed for responsible, insured drivers. We routinely decline rental requests from people who cannot provide proper insurance, even if they meet other criteria.

You must provide

  • Valid government‑issued driver’s license
  • Active personal auto insurance card or declarations page
  • Credit or debit card in your name
  • Current contact information (phone + email)

We will decline your rental if

  • You have no personal auto insurance
  • Your insurance cannot be verified by our team
  • Your insurance excludes rental or similar vehicles
  • You refuse to provide insurance documentation

Quick self‑check: are you eligible today?

If you can answer “yes” to all of these, you’re likely ready to reserve:

  • My driver’s license is valid and not suspended
  • My personal auto insurance is active and in my name
  • My coverage includes liability and collision
  • My policy will remain active for the full rental period

Not sure whether your policy qualifies? Send us a copy of your insurance card or declarations page and we’ll review it before you book.

Rental & insurance FAQs

Answers before you book

These are the most common questions about our rental process and why we insist on proper insurance.

Why does SecureDrive require my own insurance instead of selling a policy at the counter?

We focus on working with drivers who already maintain responsible coverage. Your personal policy is tailored to you and typically provides better, more consistent protection than short‑term add‑ons. Our business model is built around renting to well‑insured drivers, so we do not complete rentals for people who cannot show acceptable existing coverage.

Can I rent a car from you if I don’t currently have auto insurance?

No. We do not rent our vehicles to drivers without active personal auto insurance that we can verify. This is a strict safety policy and we do not make exceptions, even for short rentals or if you offer a larger deposit.

What happens if my insurance can’t be verified?

If we cannot confirm that your policy is active and meets our minimum coverage levels, we will cancel or decline your reservation. You will not be allowed to pick up a vehicle. We may ask you to contact your insurance provider or submit updated documentation before trying to book again.

Does my credit card’s rental coverage count as insurance?

Credit card coverage is usually secondary and does not replace the need for an active personal auto policy. We still require proof of your own insurance in your name. If your credit card adds extra protection, that is a bonus—but not a substitute for our minimum insurance requirement.

Can someone else with insurance rent a car for me to drive?

Generally, the primary renter, the person signing the agreement, must be the insured driver and the main driver of the vehicle. We may approve additional drivers if they each provide valid licenses and acceptable personal insurance. We will not allow a fully uninsured person to be the primary driver of our vehicles.
